MISDEMEANOR DRUG COURT PROGRAM (MDCP) Judge Gisele Pollack

MISDEMEANOR DRUG COURT PROGRAM (MDCP)

Overview: The Misdemeanor Drug Court is a special court that is given the responsibility to handle cases involving substance-abusing offenders through comprehensive supervision, drug testing, treatment services and immediate sanctions and incentives. Defendants charged with possession of marijuana or misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia cases are eligible for the program. Other charges are considered if the underlying circumstances of the offense involve substance abuse. The court provides a more comprehensive and closer supervision of the drug-using offender than standard probation. The participant are in constant contact with Drug Court team, which includes weekly office visits and court sessions. The program lasts a minimum of six months and is overseen by Judge Gisele Pollack. Upon successful completion of the Drug Court program, the participant’s charges are dismissed or if on probation, supervision is early terminated.
Goal: The goal of the Broward County Drug Court is to substantially reduce drug use and recidivism of those offenders participating in the program through comprehensive supervision and treatment. The program is expected to save the county money in the future due to reducing re-arrests, jail space, and time spent in the criminal justice system. Drug Courts are demonstrably effective in reducing drug addiction and drug related crime.
Judge Gisele Pollack is incredible in the bench, showing so much compassion, understanding and respect.
