AUSTRALIA’S favourite album of 2013 was a Pink album released in 2012.
The album has sold 560,000 copies in Australia, with around 200,000 of those sold last year, marking the high point of a year of overall low album sales.
Pink’s album spent four weeks at No. 1 this week and 35 weeks in the Top 10. It never left the Top 40.
Her popularity is so great in Australia she has had an album at either No.1 or No.2 in six out of the last seven ARIA end of year album charts. She also scored the year’s highest-selling music DVD with her The Truth About Love concert, filmed in Melbourne.
Despite being released just six weeks ago, One Direction’s Midnight Memories is the year’s No. 6 album with around 120,000 copies sold.
One Direction, who toured Australia this year also had lots of fans buying their album.

X Factor won the battle of album sales over The Voice when it came to covers albums.
Despite being rush-released for Christmas X Factor winner Dami Im made No. 17 on around 78,000 sales and runner-up Taylor Henderson No. 20 on 74,000 sales. Voice winner Harrison Craig made No.22.
Last year’s Voice winner Karise Eden made No.6 in the 2012 end of year album chart.
The biggest-selling original Australian album released in 2013 was Russell Morris’ Sharkmouth, at No. 33, which has sold steadily all year despite little radio support.
The album peaked at No.6, his first Top 10 placing, and won an ARIA Award for Best Blues and Roots release.
It has sold over 70,000 copies this year and was recently reissued with a DVD on the making of the album.

27 Australian acts made the year’s 100 best selling albums including Bliss N Eso (No.34), Troy Cassar-Daley and Adam Harvey (No.35), Birds of Tokyo (No.37) and Tina Arena (No.39).
Surprisingly low placings were had by Lady Gaga’s ArtPop (No.72), Kings of Leon’s Mechanical Bull (No.80) and Miley Cyrus’ Bangerz at No.64.
Katy Perry’s Roar was the No. 1 single in Australia last year, after spending nine weeks at No. 1 – the longest run on top this year and selling over 560,000 copies.
No Australian single made the Top 10 sellers of 2013; the highest local was Melbourne’s Vance Joy at No.12 with Riptide.

Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke was 2013′s second-highest seller, with Passenger’s Let Her Go, Avicii’s Wake Me Up and Lorde’s Royals making up the Top 5.

Jason DeRulo had the most singles in the chart, with four tracks lodged in the Top 100 – Talk Dirty, The Other Side, Trumpets and Marry Me.
However his success failed to translate into album sales, with his album Tattoos only the year’s 85th highest seller, despite peaking at No. 5 upon release.
